Does anyone know how an Insect repelling machine works? I wanted to know how The insect repelling machine works. Can I make it in my home myself? Whatwill be the cost?

T J replied: "If you mean something like the Mosquito Magnet, I wouldn't recommend making it at home. The Mosquito Magnet has an LP gas tank and burns the gas emitting carbon dioxide. It also has an "attractant" (octenol) that it sends out that supposedly attracts mosquitos. When they get there, a fan sucks them in. It does work - we had one and within a few weeks (the length of their reproductive cycle) most were gone."

Kes replied: "Not all advertised insect repelling machines are necessarily effective. The link includes and disputes some of the claims. Devices that lure mosquitoes using carbon dioxide (that mimics human breath?) may have some merit. But raising frogs (that exhale carbon dioxide) may be safer (at home) and more pleasant if you enjoy amphibians, right?"

That be me replied: "Most of them are a waste of money"

My washing machine works but water won't come out, what can be wrong with it, someone please help.? My washer machine works it spins and everything except pour water out, can someone please help me with this problem. the water wont come out at all, the washer never has any water in it.

K M replied: "I'm not understanding whether the water from the spigot is not flowing or the basin is not draining. Could you elaborate? ETA: if the basin is not filling then check to be sure the values are turned on. They work the same way any faucet would- lefty loosey, righty tighty. If the spigots are open and still no water then call a plumber."

gonecrzy70 replied: "one is the water on that is going into the washer.. two.. I don't think it should spins with out water in it.. if draining is the problem then maybe you drain is clogged or you pump is not working.. Just a women speaking.. so maybe I am all wrong."

versantly replied: "hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if "water won't come out" ---it's not working!!!"

wellaem replied: "sounds like you need a new pump"

Mike H replied: "the drain hose ,may need to be vented, they make a special vent that fits to drain hose and then to drain. I have had that problem in past, added vent and worked fine. hope this is all it takes. Hope its not a pump problem? You should be able to get one at an appliance parts store, inexspensive compared to pump. 5-10$ can't remember what I paid for it."

Lisa J replied: "I am far from a maytag repair person but I think there is a pump that pumps the water out. Try this site. You might get some answers."

bilbotheman replied: "From your additional details it seems that water is not going in in the first place. Perhaps the supply pipe has a problem? Check the taps are turned on if they are the hot supply may be furred up if you are in a hard water area. If water is going into the machine, but not draining then the drain hose is kinked or blocked with detritus from the machine. Check your owners manual. You may have to drain manually, the manual will tell you how to do this."

vadonna replied: "sounds like a pump or drain call a sears guy"

What exercise machine works best for thighs? I naturally have thicker thighs, i was wondering what exercise machine would work best for losing some fat on my inner thighs? Would it be the treadmill, elliptical, stairmaster, or bike? And if you would know please entail how much time would need to be spent on each machine to make a noticeable difference.

designer replied: "I do it all and my thighs are amazing! I wear a size 0! I love cycling and squats. Also the elliptical and the treadmill are always great. I jump from elliptical to treadmill whenever I need a change but I always cycle. And I do the stairmaster! I usually do 3 machines and I will do them for 30 minutes each. The cycling and stairmaster are always and then I will decide between the elliptical and the treadmill. I am for 60-90 minutes of cardio, 5-6 days a week (because I love sweets and junk food). On lazy days I will only do 30 minutes of cardio."

Summer M replied: "mostly everywhere you go, you see these stair climber machines. i have been on one for a long time and you start to feel the burn very easily so i would go with one of those :) good luck! summer"

Does Anyone Know how a bubble machine works? Does anyone know how to a bubble machine works? I'm doing a project on how stuff works for physics. If you know a good website that would be good too. Thanks!

My seven year old daughter asked how a sewing machine works. Any ideas on how to explain it to her? I have a sewing machine, but it would be good to have a concept a seven year old could grasp.

amiboo replied: "I don't think you need a great deal of detail. Show her how the thread runs from the spool on top down thru all the different places to the needle. Then show her the bobbin and how that thread comes up. On a piece of fabric show her how the needle goes with the top thread down thru the fabric to catch the bottom thread and back up thru. I doubt if she wants a detailed account of the mechanics of the machine."

mrNiceguy replied: "If tiger woods learn how to play golf when hes 5 why cant your daughter learn how to sew yeahh! So, you know that if you buy a sewing machine comes with a (manual) or basic info on how to used it! or you can buy a vcr or dvd for it and watch it. maybe spent -+ 10box but worted cause ones she learn you have no idea what can she make. good luck."

Tosha B replied: "Just demonstrate the process you go through when you are sewing something."

Real replied: "Ask this question on patternreview.com. There are professionals who teach children who answer questions on that site, and many of the participants are also parents who have taught their kids. It's a top sewing site."

mgnavadomskis replied: "First, learn how it works yourself by reading here: Then, explain it to her, using words & ideas & examples that you know she understands. Great animated diagram on this page here:"

kay replied: "The howstuff works site is pretty good, but she'll probably remember this youtube clip better (and it's perfectly clean and fit for a child): If I've managed to mangle that, look for "sewing machine magic" and it will open with a screen with New England Rubbish Deconstruction Society -- you can jump ahead to about 1:30 before the actual demo starts."

LandOfMisty replied: "Just get a piece of material and show her how it sews. Then turn it upside down so she can see the gears.....undo the screws on top so she can see those gears, and turn the wheel so she can see how they move. Then show her where the bobbin goes and put a full bobbin in and let her see how the thread comes up and catches the one on top. She is 7 after all. She must be interested(curious) in machines? She might invent something someday if she is not discouraged. It will be something she will never forget for you taking time alone with her to show her."

Juggling Frogs replied: "Here's a great animation that helped explain it to my daughters (aged 8, 9 and 11) "

Can anyone explain to an idiot how a smith machine works and how to use one? As stated in my other smith machine related question, I train alone at 5am so there will be nobody around to ask. I'm going to use it for benchpress tomorrow for the first time.

Wooderson replied: "It just holds the bar, which has hooks on it, so it basically self spots. If you can't lift it up, you can twist the bar a 1/4 turn and it will hook on so it doesn't fall on you."

lily replied: "myfit.ca/exercisedatabase washingtondc/craiglist.org hope these help:-)"

dave replied: "the smith machine is designed (in my mind) to be able to do a bench press with free weights in relative safety by yourself.by rotating the bar you release the hooks allowing you to bench press.if at any point you cannot move the weight due to fatigue or muscle failure just rotate the hooks and this will lock the weight at that level.the hooks click onto the metal pins on the side of the machine. this machine does not activate as many muscles as a regular press as you are not using stabilising muscles.(the machine is doing this for you as well as providing a degree of safety for the lone user) this machine can also be used for squats. i hope this helps"

Any idea is there any book on how a washing machine works? Describe in detail how the system works and its mechanics principles.

Real_Pizza_man replied: "Try ."

I need to test a Kenmore washing machine to see if it works. Does it need to be hooked up to water? I plug it in to a function outlet and turn it on. Since it isn't connected to a water supply, obviously no water can flow, which would be the obvious way to see if the machine works. It does seem to emit a very low level hum. How can I tell if this machine works? I wish to sell it and need to know if it works to sell it as functioning or as parts. It's just not located in a place where I can hook it up to water, BTW. I understand that the water flowing through the machine is part of its functioning, but I'm willing to trust that the water will flow through the machine correctly if it powers up correctly and all of the parts move as they should.

lilabner replied: "Try this, set the water level to low, take a bucket and pour water in until it clicks and then see. Make sure your drain hose is not going to flood the area."

Jeffrey S replied: "Well, since filling with water IS part of the functioning of the washing machine, I'd say you need to hook up at least the cold water to it. Maybe you could use you hose bib and garden hose. You would need to buy a female to female adapter."

Im trying to lose weight I have a Mini Stepper do this machine works and is it worth doing? I dont wont to waste time if the stepper machine dont work. Im trying to lose weight for medical condition. im 23 5'10 250. So yeah Im way over weight and need to lose at lease 75 pounds.

Lillie replied: "yeahh stairs/step up are like really good exercise apparently"

★Nicolette★ replied: "drink lots of water, and eat regularly. don't starve yourself, because once you start eating again, you'll gain everything back, trust me. eat lots of fruits and veggies, and if you eat bread, make sure it's whole grain. white bread is pretty fattening. you can also eat lean meats, like fish, turkey and chicken breast. skip out on sweets, candy, sugary foods, chips, ice cream, cake, and cookies. if you feel hungry, but don't want to over eat, chew gum. it'll keep your mouth busy and it tricks yourself into thinking your eating. cut out ALL soda! if you stop drinking soda, it helps you out a lot! and don't forget to exercise! try walking, jogging, jump rope, dancing, bike riding and swimming. try exercising for 45-80 minutes a day. good luck!"

Mira replied: "Do not starve your self(it never works, although that's the first thought that crosses anyone's mind when thinking to lose weight)Eating more frequently, and in small servings, can prevent over-eating. This will also increase your metabolism and make calories burn faster.Eat healthy, drink lots of water, have enough sleep and exercise. This will give you a higher chance of losing weight and improving your health, which would result to a new, healthier you. Here's some other quick tips for you: * Do not skip meals. Skipping meals slicks the body into slowing down the metabolism, attempting to conserve calories during a period where limited fats and fuel are available. Remember that eating increases the metabolism. * Good cooking and healthy eating begins with learning about nutrition and how to prepare healthy recipes. * Slowly eat and chew each bite during meals as this would decrease one's appetite. * One of the best sources of vegetable protein is from soya beans or tofu. All legumes provide some protein, so include lentils, lima beans etc into casseroles and soups. * Chilli helps to speed up metabolism - even the milder varieties. If you have started losing weight, just remember it's a question of will. Keep doing what your're doing, stay away from junk food and sodas, and you will feel more healthier and alive than never before."

How does centrifuge machine works? I mean what it does to molecules and how it works?

Jim808 replied: "It seperates the molocules that are of diffrent weight (atomic) to each other, think of water & oil how they don't mix you'll get the idea"

fml27 replied: "A centrifuge is used to separate the molecules. some shake, some spin, some have heating, some are nuclear, which kind you use solely depends on what you are trying to separate. The molecules separate by weight. A heavier isotope tends to stick to the walls so the lighter can be scooped out. If the centrifuge has a magnet attached the molecules will separate by polarity and magnetic attraction."
